Colosus President Mr. Willie Kim Kamara
Mr. Kamara was reelected in 2010 as Colosus Secretary
General. He held that position until the post of Secretary General was
raised to that of president. |
My
fellow Liberians and friends of Liberia, on behalf of the officers of he
Conference of Liberian Organizations in the Southwestern United States (COLOSUS),
and Friends of Liberia all over Texas, it is indeed my pleasure to
greet you, welcome you to the Loan Star State of Texas and to commend you
for keeping the spirit of UNITY and TOGETHERNESS as we
celebrate Liberia’s 164th Independence Day. This year’s
conference theme, “Unity in Diversity and Nation Building” is very
appropriate for this conference to the resolve President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf
has shown despite a handful of disgruntled politicians to distract her.
Dallas, Texas is the right place to hold the celebration this year because
Liberia has something in common with Texas-“the Loan Star States”.
On a
higher note, President George W. Bush’s help in stopping the 14 year civil
war in Liberia as well as for his and America’s unwavering support in the
rebuilding of Liberia. As our conference theme suggests, if we focus on
making progress in our communities and in Liberia, we shall once again raise
our beloved country, Liberia, to full recovery in unity.
So,
fellow Liberians, I thank every member, friend and well-wisher who
has given of their time and other economic resources for the success of this
Independence Day event. I offer my sincere thanks to the officers and
members of the Liberians Community Association of Dallas, TX (LCA) and
their friends in the DFW for giving of their time and energy toward the
success of this celebration. I hope your weekend in Dallas has been
fruitful and rewarding. I applaud your sacrifice, commitment and for
taking time off from your busy schedule to join us today. I extend
special greetings to our colleagues from other member
organizations/countries and our supporters who travel from far and near to
make this occasion a memorable one. I believe your presence here is a
manifestation of your willingness and desire to assist in the call to
develop and reconstruct our country. |

Let
us lay aside ethnic, social and personal differences and work to improve
COLOSUS as well as our beloved Liberia. I challenge you to get
involve in the programs and projects of COLOSUS and give of your
time, commitment and financial contributions. Let us continue to keep
the flame burning for the up-lifting of COLOSUS and Liberia. The
future of our organization and country is in our hands. We need more
hands involved, initiating new strategies and actively taking part in the
development process. We need to put our money where our mouth is.
The Administration’s philosophy: “Working together to make a
Visible Difference”. We must roll up our sleeves, forge ahead and
meet the challenges before us. The action strategies we develop today
will pave the way for a better tomorrow.
While
enjoying and participating in this year’s conference, I encourage you to
experience the beautiful sceneries in the Dallas’s metropolitan.
Welcome to Dallas/Fort Worth and welcome to Texas. Have fun, why not?
Thank
you all and may God bless Liberia and Africa.
Willie
Kim Kamara-Secretary General.
